1. Prohibition of electronic cigarettes in Thailand.

Under the new law of Thailand, the import, use, storage of electronic cigarettes and their analogues are prohibited in Thailand. Now electronic cigarettes are equated with drugs and severely punished by law. Violators face a fine of up to 1,000,000 Baht or up to 10 years in prison. Strongly recommended to refrain from importing electronic cigarettes into Thailand, as well as their use, storage and carrying.

There have already been cases of detention of tourists with electronic cigarettes, with extremely unpleasant consequences for them. We recommend not to risk and not to violate this ban.

2. Prohibition of smoking on beaches.

Since November 1, 2017, in Thailand, the ban on smoking on the 20 most popular beaches in Thailand. Of the beaches in Phuket, only Patong is on the list, but the government promise to extend the ban to other beaches. You can smoke in specially equipped places near the beaches. It is forbidden to walk around with a cigarette on the beach and throw cigarette butts in the sand. For violation, a fine of up to 100,000 Baht and up to 1 year of imprisonment.

The reason for the ban was the recent study conducted on Patong. On the 2,5-kilometer stretch of the beach, about 138,000 cigarette butts were found.

3. Prohibition of smoking Hookah.

This ban has been in force in Thailand for several years. Smoking Hookah in the territory of Thailand is prohibited, as well as the import of hookah. In case you bring a hookah to Thailand, it can be taken away from you when you through customs in at the airport. The owners of the cafe, in which the hookah is offered to visitors, is facing a more severe punishment. Despite the absence of serious punishment for the transportation of hookah, we do not recommend taking it with you. All imported luggage is now being scanned, the likelihood that it will not be found is not high. The transportation of the forbidden hookah, in turn, will at least entail unnecessary complications and delays at the customs.

4. Import of cigarettes to Thailand.
You can import not more than 200 cigarettes per person (1 block) or 250 grammes of tobacco without a declaration for personal use.
